Loyalty
Dawn is but a few hours away. The lights are off. The fan is spinning overhead. A faint glow from a laptop illuminates several lumps on the bed, huddled together.
He keeps her warm, though he snores quite loudly. He's a bit fuzzier than she's used to cuddling with, but she can't fault him for that. At least he's there.
She tosses and turns. She grips the pillow more tightly. A tear slips out now and again, wetting the pillow.
She glances once more at the laptop before giving in to sleep's beckoning. Her cheek is still wet.
He snuggles closer to her, ever dutiful in his master's absence.

Beautifully expressed pain. *sigh*
When I saw this on my reader this morning, I had to stop reading, I was already tearing up. I steeled myself getting a cup of coffee because I knew I had to read it before I did anything else. :hug

AWWW! Steph, you're already making me cry this morning. Here's a hug, maybe it'll make tonight a bit easier.

I feel your pain my friend. I can't tell you how many times I practically soaked my dogs with my own tears. They are the best companions. Hugs from me.:hug

I'm cuddled in bed with my two dogs as I write this. You so eloquently expressed a sentiment that I feel every day that my husband is gone. It's nice to know I'm not alone.
