A House Or A Home?
I've spent the last couple of days mourning my plans for this house due to the upcoming move.
I was excited about taking the house from an all white, bare wall bachelor pad to a personalized, comfortable home. I've gone back and forth on whether to bother finishing all of my plans, alternating between scaling them back and giving up altogether to just hang decor on mostly white walls.
I decided that I AM going to spend at least six more months here and darn it, I'm going to make it look that way. I'm scaling back my plans a bit, but not giving up on those things which I was most excited about.
I found a distributor for our cabinets and will go in this week to order the moulding for the top of our kitchen cabinets, though I won't paint the walls. I just measured the dining room for a chair rail and ordered my first power tool to get that job done. (Yes honey, go brag to your buddies. Your wife went shopping for power tools instead of purses while you were deployed.
)
I'm still going to paint the 'man den' and hang up all of his manly things, including the lovely deer antlers. I won't paint it the color I'd planned on to keep it sale friendly, but at least it won't be all white.
I'm giving up on painting our bedroom, as I was going to go with a more dramatic color. I'll just hang things up and buy some bright curtains instead. Likewise, I'm not doing the guest room or the pseudo office. But the rooms which count, where we spend most of our at home time, those will get done. I can't stare at bare white walls for another six months. I just can't. I need to feel at home, even if we won't be here for long.

Good luck with the house! I'm sure whatever you decide to do will be great, but you're still gana be living there, even if only a short time, make it yours!
What you have decided is smart and a good compromise. You are entitled to feel at home wherever you are for however long you are there.
and what girl doesnt love the chance to use some power tools!?
