"They also serve who only stand and wait." - John Milton

Whine, Whine, Whine

I just spent the last hour cleaning out and washing my car, so the dogs were in their kennels because they can't be trusted to roam the house unsupervised.

I could hear Creole whining pitifully even through the door to the garage. I came inside and am purposefully ignoring him to show him whining gets him nothing. It's been 25 minutes now of whining. Loud, annoying, blood pressure raising whining.

I. Will. Not. Give. In.

:gaah:

PS
The usually much more pitiful pug is lying patiently in his kennel, not making a peep.

Boy, can I sympathize! Our youngest dog thinks whining and/or barking will get him anything. We didn't get him until he was eighteen months and apparently that worked on the old owner, so it's a chore to break him of it.

You're doing the right thing. I think you should put on your headphones and crank up your mp3 player. ;-)

good practice for when you have children ;)
did I just say that??

actually... after mine have a visit from Grandma, they have to relearn that whining doesn't work for me, as it does for Grandma... so I go through the same (although not as long) process.... for the kids AND the dogs.

Ah, I have a pug too! They are the greatest, if not a tad spoiled :). Or wait, maybe that is just mine....

Me too, me too! 2 year old dog who's old owner did a number on him. Poor baby, but now he's turning that saying around to fit me!

TripleE totally took my line. I have to bite my tongue not to ask the kids if they want some cheese with that whine. (Can't you just see the can of worms that would open up?!)

So, do you think Creole is going to be perfect angel when "Dad" gets home?
:whistle

MW, if Creole is an angel and makes me look like I had no stress from him all these months, I'll kill him! :))

D.A.R - My pug isn't the least bit spoiled. Nuh-uh, not Gumbo. ;)

TripleE, gee, thanks. Glad I'll be prepared! 90 minutes later he finally got let out of his kennel and I'm sure it had NO impact ...

Tracy, thanks for the MP3 player suggestion. Worked like a charm and I didn't drop it in the sink while doing the dishes, either. :giggle:

I don't know about dogs, but that's how it seems to work with kids. Their little horns and tails are in full evidence while you're solo-parenting. Then Daddy comes home and they're wearing their halos and whistling like they have no idea why Mommy is so c:gaah:razy.

Absolutely everything Marine Wife said except I will say that at least you are allowed to lock up a whining dog...can't lock up your kid without CPS being called. shame really...i think some time out in a creche could do all two year olds the world of good! Kidding, totally kidding and Biscuit was a huge whiner but she did get better. Lots and lots of patience and stubborness from my end!

I meant crate, not creche too!
