One down

The first month is officially over. :roof

:secret I finally washed the sheets. I can't bring myself to wash his pillow case though. :shy:

Charlie got to choose from some of the last open slots for R&R, so he'll be home early next year and then will go back for another 7-8 months. We would have preferred a later slot so that we were on the downhill slope after he left, but we'll survive.

We had initially planned to meet in Europe but I don't think either of us are thrilled about Europe in the winter, let alone me trying to pack winter clothes and such for two and travel alone with all of that. I thought maybe we could do Edelweiss in Germany but they don't have any availability during his R&R, of course. It's also apparently a prime time for the Caribbean, so the cheapest I'm finding is $2k for lodging/meals only for a week. We're looking at maybe a cruise or staying in some military lodging in CA. I really would love to go to Hawaii but he'll lose almost a full day of his leave in travel so we're very hesitant to do that. If anyone has other suggestions, I'd love to hear them!

I'm off to enjoy some organic pizza and a glass of wine. I spent most of the day editing and am ready to just chill.

Las Vegas. It's low season for them in the winter. Most places will give you complimentary nights and/or upgrades to concierge level. We stayed in the Venetian and ate fine food the whole time. It was wonderfully relaxing and there's tons to do.

Sicily or Sardinia Italy. My MIL and rest of family loved it so much they went twice (to Sardinia). They went in May and it was hot so I'm thinking the weather should be a little cooler in the beginning of the year. They said it was very relaxing.

What about Malta or Greece?

As for Edelweiss, keep calling and don't rely on their online reservations. We were able to get rooms there quite often when they showed no reservations just by talking to a real person.

It's not Hawai'i, but Québec City is really, really lovely--especially the old part of town. And, there's SNOW TUBING, which is soooo much fun.

I also really like the San Francisco Bay area--Point Reyes National Seashore is amazing!

I thing we are going to try to do Europe ourselves if we have the money, the time change is just so much easier for him and maybe we will get a real honey moon in (talk about wishful thinking).
We have fifty weeks to go congrats on your month!

I wish I had a cool vacation in the works. We're in the same boat as you with B coming home early January for two weeks and heading back for 7 more months, but different in the way that I'm going to be induced to deliver our baby boy a day or two after he gets home (providing bebe doesn't arrive early!) So we'll have two weeks of snuggling in front of the fire while hopefully watching the snowfall. Eh, I guess that doesn't sound too bad afterall. Good luck planning something fantastic. (My vote is also for Vegas. More bang for the buck.)
